My name is Kelley Martin and I have lived in Florence for 15 years.  I am married to Tony Martin, who is the principal at Florence High School and a member in the Mississippi Air National Guard.  We have three boys, Kyle, Blake and Sam. Kyle and Blake attend Florence Elementary School and Sam attends Steen’s Creek Elementary.  We are members of First Baptist Church of Florence.

I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1998 with a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing.  I own and practice at Florence Family Clinic as a nurse practitioner.  It is rewarding to be able to work in the community that I live.

I was elected to the City of Florence Board of Alderman during a special election in March 2008 when Robert Lingold moved out of the city limits and vacated his position. The experience has been truly rewarding serving such a wonderful city.  Florence is a great place to live, raise a family, worship, work and retire.  We are blessed with our excellent schools, churches, public library, small local businesses, a beautiful retirement home and retirement community. Florence has several new neighborhood developments that have brought new families into this community.

There are several issues that I believe are needed to improve Florence.  The first is attracting businesses to this area. I was excited when Boots and More and Cole’s Body Shop decided to bring their businesses to Florence.  I believe as these businesses prosper that others will join us.  I am interested in enhancing the downtown area.  It would be wonderful to see downtown revitalized while maintaining a quaint charm.  There are so many possibilities for this area of our city.

I am interested in expanding the Florence Parks and Recreation Department.  We need to continue to improve our park with the growing number of children playing the various sports programs that the city offers and our community center that provides activities for our senior adults.   I would love to see the park have a face lift with new benches, new soccer concessions, improve the playground area, community center and other various projects to enhance its appearance. Our local Boy Scout Troop 108 built attractive bridges to help with access to the fields over wet areas.  I want our park and community center to be the best it can be for all our citizens.

The entire board is working hard for each of you and we encourage you to come join us at our meetings. We meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm in City Hall.

I truly love this community and only want the best for its citizens. I will always do my best to serve you with honor and dignity.  I will always be loyal to this city. I greatly appreciate all the support and the opportunity to serve you.  May God watch over you and bless you daily.
